Established in 1893, Buckleigh Linen Services has an extensive history and a long-term reputation for providing customers with a high quality service. Originally built in the Victorian era the company underwent a complete re-build in 1995 after a fire destroyed the entire laundry.
The 1994 fire was a terrible event; however, we were fully operational within 14 months – four months ahead of schedule – and retained 96% of our customer base. The laundry and plant layout were completely rebuilt to our own design to ensure efficient and economical processing conditions. In the summer months we process up to 70,000 kg of work per week.
A full account of the early days of Buckleigh Linen Services has been recorded and published as a book, which documents early practices, international customers, and local route planning. The book was handwritten by the third-generation owner and contains numerous pictures depicting the factory conditions, work events and individual members of staff. For those who are intrigued, it can be purchased from us or any good book shop: ‘Buckleigh Laundry' by V J Boyle.
